Bringing the Gift of Sight to Remote Karen Communities Since 2011
Since 2011, the Mobile Eye Mission has delivered quality eye care to Karen communities living in rural, remote, and conflict-affected areas of Karen State. Founded by Dr. Nay Hser and Dr. Robert Arnold, the program was created to reach people who have little or no access to eye care because of geographic isolation, poverty, or conflict.
Rather than asking patients to travel long distances, our team of eye surgeons, healthcare professionals, and volunteers brings essential eye care directly to their communities. Working alongside local leaders and community health workers, we provide timely treatment that restores sight, prevents blindness, and improves quality of life.
Every mission restores more than vision—it restores independence, dignity, and hope.
Outreach Services
Essential eye care, delivered directly to communities.
Our Mobile Eye Mission focuses on delivering essential eye care directly to communities through:
- Community-based eye screening and vision assessment
- Early detection of cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye conditions
- Cataract surgery during outreach missions
- Basic treatment for common eye diseases and minor eye injuries
- Refraction services and prescription spectacles
- Eye health education and blindness prevention
- Referral of complex cases to the Ker Paw Taw Lu Eye Clinic for ongoing treatment
Since 2011, the Mobile Eye Mission has restored sight to thousands of patients and brought essential eye care to underserved Karen communities across Karen State.
