Restoring Sight Across Generations
For years, blindness affected two generations of one Karen family.
Saw Klaw Kay, a young boy from a remote village in Karen State, was born with childhood cataracts that gradually stole his vision. Like many children living in isolated communities, access to specialised eye care was simply beyond his family's reach. As his eyesight worsened, everyday activities became increasingly difficult, and his family feared he might never experience the world clearly.
During one of Burma Vision's first Mobile Eye Missions to the area, Saw Klaw Kay received cataract surgery on one eye. The operation transformed his life. For the first time in years, he could see the faces of his family, play with his friends, and look toward a brighter future. He later returned during a second outreach mission to receive surgery on his other eye, completing his journey to restored sight.
His recovery gave hope to another member of the family. Inspired by her nephew's successful treatment, Naw Ma Aye, who had lived with childhood cataracts since she was ten years old, sought help from the Mobile Eye Mission. At 17 years of age, she underwent cataract surgery that restored her vision. After years of blurred sight, she could once again see clearly, bringing joy not only to herself but also to her entire family.
Today, both aunt and nephew share the precious gift of sight—a reminder that one act of compassionate care can transform not just an individual life, but an entire family.
